News and Notes from PolicyViz - Issue #20
Hi everyone! Happy end-of-summer to you! I can't believe we're already at the end of summer--my kids have gone back to school this week, so there is finally some quiet in the house.
It has been a very busy summer for me, though you probably can't tell from the PolicyViz website. I haven't posted a blog post or video in months, and that's because I've been incredibly busy at work and I've been finishing up my new book--a step-by-step guide to creating better data visualizations in Excel! I'm still playing with the cover concepts, but the writing is almost totally done.
In the coming weeks, I'm looking to carve out some time to get back to writing blogs and recording some videos. There are some things in Excel and Tableau I've learned this summer that I want to share with you all. And some data visualizations--both good and bad--that I'd like to cover in my Critiques series. If you find things you think I should talk about, please reach out and let me know!
I'm also gearing up for a new season of the podcast. I've conducted one interview so far with several more either scheduled or in the works. I'm also thinking that I might dedicate the second half of this season to data/dataviz accessibility. I've been working with some of the people in the field doing great work in this space recently, so I may try to turn that work into a podcast series.
Okay, that's all for now. Check out the rest of this week's newsletter for a couple of giveaways and some other cool links.
Thanks and take care,
Jon
PolicyViz Book Giveaway!
I have a number of extra books lying around the house that I'd like to get rid of. As newsletter subscribers, you have first shot at winning any of the six books shown above by filling out this Google Form. You have 10 points to distribute as you see fit and I'll weight your responses accordingly. I'll announce winners next week. (Unfortunately, because shipping a book from the US internationally costs something like $40, this contest is for people residing in the continental US only.)
With school upon us once again--mostly in person this time!--I thought this would be a good opportunity to offer FREE sets of my Match It Data Visualization card game to educators. If you teach K-12th grade in the continental US (sorry, international shipping is super expensive), head over to this Google Form and tell me where and what you teach, and you'll be entered into a drawing to win 5 sets of the Match It game!
